Patients

As a patient of TSO, we want you to feel comfortable, well communicated to and that you are getting the best form of treatment in a good time-frame, to get your life back on track from injury.

Consultation

Your initial consultation will be booked once we have received a referral from your Healthcare provider, and will be in our rooms at 114 Ormond Road, Gisborne.

Duncan will review your injury and either organise further investigation and management plan.

Please bring appropriate clothing for lower limb or shoulder examination.

If your injury requires investigation, you will receive a follow up appointment once this has been completed and from there, a plan for recovery or for surgery will be made, with you.

Your Surgery

Your surgery will either be covered by ACC or you will have private insurance. Some surgery’s do not require ACC approval, in which case you will added to a waitlist. Chelsea Hospital will contact you directly once they have a date for you.

If your type of surgery requires approval, an ARTP will be completed by the surgeon and submitted to ACC. Approvals can take up to 12 weeks from ACC, some require further information before being approved or in some cases are declined.

If you have private insurance or are privately funding, a quote will be put together and submitted to your insurance company to approve.

All surgery’s require you to complete a ‘Surgical Admission Pack’ provided by the surgeon and handed in to Chelsea at least 14 days prior to your surgery date. The last two sections of the pack are for the surgeon to consent with you, and must be completed together prior to surgery, or on the day.

The day before surgery, you will be contacted by the hospital and you will be briefed on the pre-op information such as when to stop eating and drinking.

Day of Surgery

Your surgery will take place at Chelsea Hospital

189 Cobden Street, Gisborne 4010

Tel: 06 867 2237

Arrive in good time for your surgery. Ensure you have organised someone to collect you if you are a day case, or have brought with you overnight items if you are to stay in.

If you are through ACC and require time off work, ensure you leave the hospital with an ACC18 work certificate, issued on the day.

Post Surgery

Before you are discharged from hospital, the nursing staff will make sure that you are safe to go home, can use your crutches or sling, and will be able to cope. If you stay overnight, you may have your dressing changed before you leave.

You will receive a ‘Wound Check’ appointment time following your surgery; this will be in 10-14 days

Your Rehab

You may be required to work with a physiotherapist to assist with your rehabilitation and you will be closely monitored by us throughout your journey.

You may require an extension to your ACC18 work certificate for full cover or limited hours, depending what type of work you do.  This will be completed by the surgeon and often on the recommendation of a physiotherapist assisting with your return-to-work programme.
